Anthony Lai: Bio

The Composer

Anthony Joseph Lai - Composer/Arranger/Conductor

Lai earned his A.A. in Music in 2005 from Henry Ford Community College. He studied classical and jazz theory under G. Kevin Dewey and Randy Knight, and in 2004 was commissioned by the college theatre department to score their production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.

He moved on to Wayne State University and studied theory, composition, and orchestration under James Hartway. His understanding of harmony and motivic development were furthered by Hartway, and in 2008, he was commissioned by classical saxophonist Donald Sinta to write a piece for his performance. That same year, he earned his B.M. in Music Theory/Composition, graduating Cum Laude.

Lai continues his professional career in music. He was commissioned by the Detroit Red Wings to arrange orchestra music for the 2008 champion’s banner ceremony, and has written consistently for HFCC’s theatre as well as for the City of Dearborn. In May of 2010, he earned his M.M. in Conducting from WSU.
